Last week we talked a lot about getting to know ourselves and fine tuning exactly what we want to achieve when it comes to our health. Once we have identified that type of person that we are and the type of goal, be it a physique change, performance based goal, etc., we can then make a nice plan of attack to achieve that goal and reach our healthy destination.
So. . .where do you want to go?
For someone like me, an lover of all things strength related, I made it a goal to one day pass the Iron Maiden Challenge. At my previous RKC II certification I missed it by a whopping centimeter. Close, but no celebratory cupcake in hand 😉 I took a few weeks off to really spend some time looking at my own training and determine where I wanted to take it to truly own that challenge. For me, doing a heavy pistol or press with a 24kg kettlebell is as easy as putting a hot knife through butter. I’m not saying that to be cocky, but to make a point that the skills I have for those two lifts are so dialed in, it’s now become second nature. That pull, it’s there, but only sometimes. It isn’t quite there all the time. . . yet 🙂
So, I want a 24kg pull up. Not only that, I want that pull to look as effortless as my press and pistol. While on a call with a really good friend of mine about this very matter, I was told the following:
“You need to walk the walk and be willing to travel the distance to get to where you want to go. Results are never linear, but the good news is the end result is always worth it once you decide you are going to get there, no matter what.”
Determination. That’s the piece of the “where do you want to go?” puzzle. Once you’re determined, all it comes down to is setting up a program to get you to your destination. For me, it’s the 24kg pull up. For you, it may be leaning out, it may be increasing your endurance, or feeling more energetic than you did in your 20’s. No matter the case, once you identify where you want to go, all it takes is the determination to get there and the help of a good coach to lead the way.
Our newest Primal Plan is designed to take a small group of people on to guide them through the training and nutritional maze to reach the healthy and strong destination. For more on that program, please visit this link.
Thanks for following a long everyone! Until next time.. .
