Note: I promise you all that no feline creature of any sort was harmed during the making of this blog post.
Today we are going to talk about something I have fallen in love with, and no, we are actually not going to be talking about kettlebells. I know right? SHOCKING!
Outside of the world of kettlebell fitness, I have fallen in love with the pull up bar. I am so in love with the pull up bar that I decided to get creative with my bar training. When I was in Philadelphia for RKC Philly, I picked up a copy of the book “Raising the Bar” by Al Kavadlo.
Raising the Bar The Definitive Guide to Bar Calisthenics
In Raising the Bar Kavadlo breaks down every type of exercise you can do with a pull-up bar. From the basic two arm hang, to the mighty muscle-up, all the way to the elusive one arm pull-up, the “bar master” takes you step by expert step through everything you need to do to build the chiseled frame you’ve always wanted.
Now, lets get into why I love this book. First of all, Al Kavadlo is covered in tattoos. I happen to be covered in tattoos, therefore this book pleases me. Second of all, this book highlights the proper progression from basic exercises like the pull up, the dip, the muscle up (my next project to master) and my new favorite move, skinning the cat. What exactly is skinning the cat? Check out my YouTube video below to see how I demonstrate how to do this awesome stunt. Please note: I am no quite 100% on this move just yet, so I am still working on holding my pose a bit longer. You’ll get the idea here in a second! Check it out!
Ok, so the title is kind of..well..graphic, but HEY! How cool is that move? It takes an incredible amount of muscle control and strength to begin this move, let alone finish it. Once I get my form down to be a bit more smooth, you all will be hearing from me. And that’s real talk, ya heard?
That’s all I have for yunz today! As always, remember to eat smart, train hard, and enjoy your life. And HEY! Pick up your copy of “Raising the Bar” by Al Kavadlo at dragondoor.com today!
