Ok, while I AM on vacation and I AM having a lot of fun sampling a ton of food here, I AM still training for my HKC cert and I HAVE to maintain my workouts while away. Before I left the Burgh, I had contacted my friend I am visiting down here in Daytona Beach about local gyms. He was able to hook the both of us up with a 14 day free pass into Anytime Fitness in Port Orange. Check this place out!
First of all, I appreciate this gym because I can walk in there and use their equipment any time during the day. I still have a bit of a schedule to maintain while I am down here in Florida, so I like how this allows me to be flexible with my workouts. And guys, I believe I found my primal fitness paradise in the area. Check out what these guys have inside!
Funny story about this place. As you all know, I had the opportunity to work out with RCK II Adrienne Harvey of giryagirl.com (yes, I know. I have to blog about that soon. Working on it. Don’t worry! I promise it’ll be up soon!). The session I had with Adrienne was intense. In fact, it was so intense that the day after working out with her, I could actually hear my muscles begging for mercy. If you ever train with her, you will know what I am talking about. This chic is BRUTAL! And that’s real talk, ya heard? All that aside, Adrienne was able to work with me as she knows I’m training for my HKC back in Pittsburgh. We did a lot of heavy swings in a parking lot (I’m talking SERIOUS IRON ) and son of a gun, looks like I got stronger! Now, when the trainers at Any Time Fitness saw me doing snatches with a 40lb kettlebell and double 12 kg snatches as well, they told me to apply for a job after my HKC certificaiton. HAHA! Looks like they were impressed!
Now, the only complaint I have about the kettlebells in this gym is that they are not labeled in kilograms. I happen to like the metric system, so trying to figure out how to convert pounds to kilos on the fly when I am jacked up from heavy lifting is kind of difficult for me. One of my routines for my certification involves heavy, two arm swings. Normally, I do them with a 20 kg kettlebell (44 lbs). This gym only has a 40lb kettlebell and a 50lb kettlebell. But hey, you know what I always say? When life throws you a curve ball, get creative! Check out a quick, 10 minute workout I came up with to compensate for not having a 44lb kettlebell (or 20 kg if you’re like me and love the metric system).
Little Bro vs Big Bro Swing Routine
10 minute interval routine. Intervals are set at 30 seconds of swings followed by 30 seconds of rest. You will be using two kettlebells, switching back and forth between each interval.
30 seconds of 40 lb swings (little bro)
30 seconds of rest
30 seconds of 50lb swings (big bro)
30 seconds of rest.
Enjoy!
Speaking of getting stronger, that day in the park with Adrienne gave me the ability to start practicing one arm pull ups. Yep. Pull ups. One arm. Now, I can’t do them entirely on one arm yet, but I have discovered a unique way to practice them in the comfort of my own home (well, my friends house for now. But I will be doing this more often when I get back to Pittsburgh). Yinz ready for some more Rock Star Pull Ups? I give you volume two! Check out the video below!
Holy crap! My arms are getting HUGE! I just noticed that in this video. Dang…
That about sums it up for me people! There is more to come from the blog this week! Remember to eat smart, train hard, and enjoy your life!
Love Always,
Janelle
