As you all know, I had the amazing opportunity to visit and train with my close friend and fellow HKC instructor Tracy Seffers. If you caught Monday’s blog post, you know we had a hard-style of a good time! Sunday afternoon we spent some time to relax and I was granted the opportunity to interview Tracy one-on-one (she interviewed me too, so be sure to check out her blog post today as well for the other side of the HKC interview 🙂 ). Without further adieu, here’s the interview I did with this amazing and inspiring woman. Get ready! Yinz aint seen nothing yet!
The Primal Burgher: How did you discover kettle bell training and what made you want to train with them in the first place?
Tracy Seffers, HKC: My doctor had told me after completely revising my eating and losing roughly 30 pounds that I needed to lose. I wanted to move and be able to build muscles in a way that I was fun and in away that I would fall in love with. Every exercise that I ever followed was boring as hell. My husband was working with kettle bells and he encouraged me to try the as they were very effective. So, I tried them and fell in love with them. M body started changing immediately. I dropped dress sizes and gained muscles mass. I never looked back since.
The Primal Burgher: How long have you been training with kettle bells and what have you noticed since training with them?
Tracy Seffers, HKC: I started training with ketttlebells in April of 2011once I received the go head from my doctor. I have noticed increased lean body mass, exuberant energy and an all around love for life.
The Primal Burgher: What has been the most rewarding experience thus far in your kettlebell training?
Tracy Seffers, HKC: I think the first experience I had that really made me know that kettlebell training was for me was being a victim at RKC Vienna in 2012. It was almost exactly a year to the date that I first started training with kettlebells. Understanding that the community was so open and so welcoming to athletic and non-athletic types was encouraging. It was a great moment watching the RKC community cheer everyone on at Vienna during the graduation workout. I just knew then that the community of the RKC family was for me.
The Primal Burgher: What are you goals for the future of your training? Any certifications you are after. Any physical feats you would like to complete?
Tracy Seffers, HKC: Well, I already completed the HKC. I would like to complete an RKC cert once I turn age 50 to make a good milestone for myself. There are obviously things I need to work on. I need to get stronger overall. Oh! And I would LOVE to master the pull up. 😉
The Primal Burgher: What’s the best advice you can give someone who is curious about kettlebll training and who would like to begin?
Tracy Seffers, HKC: Find someone who is a certified HKC or RKC and is adequately trained to teach the foundational movements of ketltebell training. The kettlebell is not necessarily forgiving of poor movements. While all of us want to encourage others to try kettle bell training, form is key and no instructor should ever sacrifice proper form in the exercises to be completed.
Special thanks to Tracy Seffers for her hospitality over the weekend and agreeing to participate in this amazing interview! That’s all folks! As always, remember to eat smart, train hard, and enjoy your life!
