Welcome to yet another primalburgher.com post. Today I want to talk about something I am reading up on lately, and that is time management. Just what does time management have to do with your diet and your health? Keep reading, and you’ll see where I’m going with this.
First of all, let’s talk about my own insane schedule at the moment. For those of youwho don’t know me personally, let me just say that I my schedule isn’t the typical schedule most 20 something females have in place for themselves. I work 40 hours a week at my job, operate this fantastic blog, shoot a crap load of YouTube videos, answer emails for Beyond Organic related matters and constantly correspond with other fitness people/agencies contacting me for to write for their websites/promote their products. I should also mention I am training for HKC Pittsburgh that is happening on September 15th. YOWZA! Talk about a plate full of crazy! It’s all good though, because I know that this is just part of the process of becoming a bigger part of the world of Kettlebells. However, I will not deny that a few weeks ago, I was feeling the pressure of this all. In fact, I got to a point one day when I came back home into my apartment and just collapsed on my bed, wondering how I was going to meet the demands of this all and not lose my mind in the process.
Then a funny thing happened. I don’t know what it is about people having a “sixth sense” about your trials, or being able to sense your need for a helping hand, but someone I know sent me a book to read called “The No B.S. Time Management for Entrepreneurs” by Dan Kennedy to help me focus on managing my time appropriately. First of all, OMG WHAT A LIFE SAVER OF A BOOK! Seriously, this coudn’t have come at a batter time. Second of all, I want to talk about something I learned from this book. Something called “Time Blocking”.
If you’re like me and have a busy schedule, blocking out your time is essential to maintaining productivity. What I mean by this is that you have to “budget” your time. You need to take the time to make time for the tasks you have at hand. Us busy fitness bees are ever more called to outline our schedules to A) make sure we find the time to train and B) find the time to eat all while we are C) going to work/school/the office/ what-have your. Time blocking essentially means you set aside certain time slots (“blocks”) during your day to train, answer phone calls, prepare food, etc. I have found being “scheduled” has actually reduced my stress dramatically over the course of this week. It’s amazing to me how powerful it is to take the time to organize your schedule. Don’t underestimate to necessity of taking some much needed you time to plan ahead. Believe me, you’re going to need it!
Applying the principle of “time blocking” to your fitness and dietary habits, I want to make the case for (you guessed it) functional fitness and crock pots (they are related I swear!). Whether you’re into kettlebells, body weight exercises, or even the hardcore Crossfit workouts, functional fitness saves you the time of having to spend hours at a gym doing isolated exercises. Hell, you can do a a 15 minute interval workout like me and my neighbor did the other night just to kill time. Check out our routine below!
Squats and Swings are Wonderful Things
30 seconds 12 kg Goblet Squats
30 Seconds Rest
30 Seconds 12 kg two arm swings
30 seconds rest
Complete this in 15 minutes. Adjust weight if necessary
BOOM! YOU ARE DONE! And seriously, I’m sure you can work in 15 minutes of time for your workout into your schedule. Do it first thing in the morning, right when you come home, or any time you have 15 minutes to spare.
Now, if finding time to exercise was once an excuse, finding time to cook will no longer be an excuse either. Take a look at my video below to see what I’m talking about.
By the way, if you havne’t gotten a crock pot yet, GET ONE! Also, if you haven’t gotten the Beyond Organic Grass fed beef yet, GET SOME NOW!
I hope all this helps you guys understand that when life gets tough, we only need to take a step back and assess what’s going on in front of us. Feeling stress is a normal part of life. Stress happens and it can be overwhelming at times. However, so long as we block out time and plan ahead, that stress we feel will be a thing of the past. Sometimes, all you have to do is sit down with yourself and prioritize. And that’s real talk, ya heard?
Have a great weekend guys! Remember to always eat smart, train hard, and enjoy your life!
Love Always,
Janelle
